The EU-funded FET Open SiCOMB project aims at demonstrating for the first time a CMOS-compatible and ultra-broadband on-chip frequency comb made from sustainable and high-performance silicon carbide.

The selected PhD student will be working at the Denmark Technical University (DTU) - thet project coordinator. DTU together with the other six partners (FAU, CNRS, POLITO, MLNX, ALM, and Moverim) forms part of the strongest team in Europe covering SiC material growth, device nanofabrication and optical communication application.

Within SiComb, DTU intends to design, fabricate and characterize SiC waveguide devices. The PhD student will work at the Departement of Photonics Engineering as part of the wide bandgap semiconductor photonics group led by Associate Professor and SiComb Project Coordinator Haiyan Ou. She/He will oversee the design, fabrication and characterization of silicon carbide on insulator (SiCOI) devices, in close collaboration with other consortium partners and group members working on material growth and device applications.

For any student wishing to establish his/her career as scientist, this is the opportunity for fulfilling their ambitions, and for getting involved in a challenging EU-funded project aimed at breaking new ground at the absolute forefront of silicone carbide nanophotonics.

The deadline for applications is March 1st, 2022.
