2021 EIC Summit: new opportunities for SiCOMB community
SiCOMB project has participated at the EIC Summit 2021, organized by the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA).
The European Innovation Council has been established to support game-changing innovations throughout the lifecycle, from early-stage research to proof of concept, technology transfer, and the financing and scale-up of start-ups and SMEs. Launched under the EU Horizon Europe Programme on March 2021, it has just celebrated its first Summit, gathering stakeholders involved in innovation and facilitating connections.
The EIC Summit in a nutshell
The EIC Summit 2021 has been the very first occasion to reflect on what has been done until now and what challenges we have to face in the future regarding technology and innovation in Europe.
Start-ups and SMEs, innovators, researchers, corporates and potential investors from all around Europe and beyond joined this event as occasion to connect and network, to learn more about major policy updates, the EIC Fund and to address several relevant topics for the EIC community.
In this sense, it has been a real thrilling moment, addressing several topics aimed at reshaping and strengthening the innovation area in the future.
Sessions concerning European technology sovereignty, the rise of Corporate Venture Capital (CVP) or the importance of diversity in innovation are only a few examples of the topics that have been addressed, not to mention smaller workshops and the so-called pitching sessions organized by topics (from green to food, robotics, consumer-related, health, biotech and pharma).
In addition, the Summit also saw the launch of the EIC Forum by Mariya Gabriel, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. The Forum is aimed at bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs and policymakers involved in innovation to “connect, contribute and co-create” and to “develop common solutions, not just policies” (Mariya Gabriel).
SiCOMB: an opportunity of networking and exploitation
SiCOMB is part of this vast process aimed at fostering innovation, through its objective of developing and demonstrating the first on-chip optical frequency comb made of silicon carbide (SiC), a material which ensures a space-saving and energy-saving technology, with higher data transmission capacity.
Breakthrough technologies are indeed one of the main reasons why EIC funding opportunities have been created, and SiCOMB is a project financed by the Horizon 2020 FET-Open (Future and Emerging Technologies), which is now part of the Horizon EuropeEIC Pathfinder.
As a consequence, SiCOMB is part of the EIC community platform, a virtual meeting place where EIC funded projects and companies can connect with their peers and expand networks with EIC eco-system partners.
To conclude, the EIC Summit has represented a further opportunity for SiCOMB to get in touch with other innovative projects and start-ups, to expand its network with both innovator actors and investor actors and, in this way, to seek for a more precise exploitation of its technological device.
